What The Mountains Forgot is a fantasy film composed of four interconnected stories inspired by Appalachian legends, ghost stories, and local histories. Some share characters and locations while others stand alone, but together they form a single narrative where grief, heartbreak, addiction, racial violence and the opioid crisis collide with fantastical creatures and supernatural dangers in ways that feel grounded in the region's culture and storytelling traditions. The film presents Appalachia not as a backdrop, but as an epic cinematic landscape—beautiful, haunted, resilient, and alive in ways American film has rarely captured.
